Our History
Founded in 1986, Barratt & Canniford Ltd has grown from a small local builder to a respected medium-sized building contractor. Over the years, we have undertaken a wide range of high-profile building projects, consistently delivering exceptional results that exceed our clients’ expectations.
Over the years, Barratt & Canniford has constructed several golf clubhouses, surgeries and many individual homes for clients throughout Somerset and Devon. The company has also built two hotels, 40 bedrooms at Padbrook Park and the 58-bedroom at Wookey Hole. The company’s work standard has attracted top accolades for building excellence awarded by Building Control.

Contracts range from small domestic extensions and new houses to surgeries and motor show rooms within a 25 mile radius of Taunton town. All our sites are visited by the firm’s safety advisors to help maintain the company’s strong views on health & safety so important within the construction industry, high levels of welfare for our Clients and staff on contracts of all sizes.

The firm maintains a strong workforce of direct employees and has gone from strength to strength since it was founded by friends Dave Barratt & Simon Canniford back in 1986. Their trade background in masonry and joinery gave Dave and Simon an excellent foundation with which to start the company, which flourishes thanks to enthusiasm and commitment to a quality finish whilst maintaining an open relationship.
The firm, which is a long time member of NHBC and National Federation of Master Builders, offer regular training to all its staff to maintain knowledge on site safety and to improve management skills and relationships.
